Newegg TV: Test Bed Testing, Core i7 980X Benchmarks

It's time to share some benchmarks for our new test bed -- and what better way to kick things off than with an Intel Core i7 980X CPU and two Radeon 5870 video cards in Crossfire?

Overkill? - probably.
Screaming fast? - definitely.

While this kind of bleeding-edge CPU & GPU hardware is impractical for most builders, several of the "lesser" components in the rig did stand out:

- The Corsair 750HX PSU performed admirably and without problems, even with the maxed-out hardware load.
- The ThermalTake Frio heatsink/fan kept idle temps around 32 C and load temps at 50-60 C.
- Intel's 40GB X25-V SSD is a fantastic performance drive at an affordable price (for a SSD), particularly with two of them in RAID 0 as a boot drive.
- Corsair's 800D chassis is remarkably full-featured and provides plenty of room to work.
