@VJWU well, from a human's viewpoint it is... to anything else maybe it isn't.
-
@FallofDarkness55 No, agreed.
-
@pacmandem correct! However I don't think that the higher power is an "intelligent designer." I think the higher power is something natural that we humans currently don't understand.
-
@FallofDarkness55 *Only if that higher power is god.

Just because something is physically off centre or small doesn't mean that it is any less important than something that is larger. This is a fallacy of equating physical size with signficance. A mountain is much bigger than a human child...yet I think the human child is more significant than the mountain.

Carl Sagan was and still is a symbol for harmonious existence and hopefully one day colonizing other planets.

religion is egotistical. it makes humans more important than they are. we know how insignificant we are in the cosmos. Drawing a connection to the Earth to some higher power is absurd!
Very well said. Though I have to wonder how the guys who study this sort of stuff don't kill themselves when they first realize just how insignificant they are.

@meshumekha Probably because they/we realize how valuabe life is and the knowledge that we can look out at the cosmos and learn more and behold it's magnificance before we wink out of existance in our very short tenure on planet Earth.

Where did this come from?

The Dennis Pragar Show in 1995. A rare moment in which Carl shows the audience the vastness of the universe and how we are not in the center of everything. A study of perspective.
