In June I took a short but sweet trip to Lucerne Valley, Calif., to visit the Wolf Mountain Sanctuary; an amazing organization with a great cause. Decided to put together a little piece to share my experience and what I learned.
---------

High in the Southern California desert a small non-profit organization run by an even smaller group of animal-loving individuals is taking on a monumental challenge. This organization began its journey in 1980 with a commitment to preserve, protect, and manage wild and captive wolves while raising awareness about their struggle. Operating on member donations and adoptions, it acts today as a permanent home for depreciated wolves and as an experiential adventure for those interested in a unique and informative opportunity to interact with these noble endangered mammals. Their wolves are rescued from unjust conditions in the movie industry, from private owners, or breeders. Some are shy and cautious while others embrace the medical care, food, love and attention from staff and visitors.

Here, they are in a safe and restorative environment.

  • These look like very cramped conditions for these animals, although I am sure better than anything the captive animal industry would offer them. It's really difficult to see them caged but I'm glad they are safe from harm.

  • God Bless Tonya and all her helpers for everything they have done for these beautiful creatures. The world needs to know about places like this and the oft-tragic consequences of interfering with nature.

  • I would SO like to vist this place :D one of my wishes is to see real life wolves and hope I could see an actual black wolf up close and maybe be able to pet it xD those are my most favor one out of all the different colored wolves.
