And now for something completely different.... This is footage I took walking through what remains of the 'Tunnel of Hope'- What was essentially the only way in and out of Sarajevo during its 4 year seige. Up to 5000 people a day walked through the often flooded, claustrophobic tunnel carrying food, weapons and even goats. It also carried the cities only fuel supply, a power line and telecomms.
In 1995 I was part of a convoy that was running trips over Mt Igman, usually under fire delivering food boxes to the tunnel. We never got to the actual tunnel entrance and this was an extraordinary experience to finally get there- 16 yrs late!
It still horrifies me that the in a country nearer than Greece we saw 110,000 killed, 2.2million dispalced and all this less than 20 years ago. Madness.
