Point Ephémère, Paris 2007
By My Own Private Scene (Rémi Pinaud, Benoît Mèry) for Camille Sauvage

Since its genesis in 2001, Oakland-based sextet Subtle has been home-recording its way to the far side of song. Drawing from a diverse palette of instruments: sampler, synth, guitar, cello, winds, electronic and acoustic drums, and the unmistakable voice and prose of doseone, the band fashions a self-sampled and live-micd honest to genreless music. Not to be missed, their live performance parallels and elaborates on the complex and natural lengths of their recorded material. With painted backdrops, stage-props and a whole lot of middleclass mojo, it is in the midst of live performance that Subtles works of song complete themselves

  • As a fan of Dose, I realize it is such a small niche of music.

This is why I always respect other peoples weird musical tastes.

  • Even if you don't agree with Dose (or listen to what he's saying) just his voice is comical, soothing, awakening, and seducing all at the same time.

  • itd be nice to hear marty talk or someone else, jel is a mute

  • @Actualle

Uhh, no, that would be doseone. I don't mean to be condescending by the way. I hope more people find Anticon!

  • Thats how I feel too. I can't help but notice they all look kinda bored or annoyed. :/

I do love Dose though. X3

  • Wrong. Not to mention the fact that Why? isn't even in Subtle

  • do you kjnow who dose one is ,

Im pretty sure its why talking...unedjucated douche

  • theres nothing to feel bad for, doseone is contributing to the aesthetics and lyrics of the band more than the music, he gets to direct everything, and the "other 5 members" get to do what they love, which is create music. but the subtle6 all contribute in varying ways, and doseone pushes it at the audience

  • You do get the impression from this Dose is running the Subtle show, whether thats a good thing (ie, pushing his own artistic vision) or a bad thing (tension with other bandmembers) depends on how you look at and appreciate the band. Personally I love Doseone's rants, I think the guys an artist and visionary. But I kinda feel bad for the others 5 bandmembers.
