@Christakos42a ...And so forth. It's similar to a chain reaction, but different. Think of time travel. If one event was changed in the past, it would cause a whole new chain of events following that overwriting what has already happened. If we could see the parallel dimensions of our future lives that follow our choices, we'd have a fifth dimensional view- but I won't get into dimensions here. You may want to look into some of Edward Lorenez's work. I can give you some materials if you wish.

@Christakos42a ...Your definition is generic and lacking, but it seems you have a very slight idea of what a butterfly effect entails. Firstly, in order for a butterfly effect to even take place, there needs to be a nonlinear, dependant system. Such as the Lorenz attractor, since your giving examples. It's not so much a chain recation, like you thought, but a single variable that is altered causing it's outcome to alter. Which causes it's outcome's outcome to alter.

@Christakos42a I merely debated his statement and followed that by a sarcastic retort. For comical affect, of course. I obviously know that the name butterfly effect is only a metaphotical conception, such to suggest that a shift so docile and dainty like the flap of a butterfly's wings could cause a chain of events in the atmoshpere that would cause a delay or acceleration in wind or discharge, a chaos theory really. It wouldn't cause a storm over your head like you had mentioned.

@FatBoyGang You have failed. The butterfly effect reffers to the fact that a very insignificant action can lead through a chain of events to a happening with much greater impact.
Example 1: A butterfly moves its wings at Brazil and the result is a storm over your head.
Example 2: mcsc177 refers to the butterfly effect, you fail and the result is me writing this.
Sopa will smite you
