I remember seeing this on TV and loving this voice and the beautiful woman it belonged to.D'Angelo never got the attention she deserved as an artist. She had everything required for superstardom technique,instrument, looks,but she got lost iin the shuffle at the Met and never made it to the first rank of Divas though she, sang in every major house, made recordings and did TV.She did not attain the heights of Peters or Sills or Moffo. .

actually, the original version she had sung in 1958 was over six minutes. This one was the edited version of the play I guess, just to fit on TV or video. But, it's a beautiful opera piece.

This is the softest voice and clear I've ever heard. Very natural voice, not forced (like if the mouth were full of oranges, because this is the problem of all the classical singers). She's impecable. Do not yell, fluent and delightful to hear. Really the best soprano. With her I understand all the words with clarity and coloraturas are impressive. Perfect, extremely fast without the slightest error and without any effort to sing.

I have had the original Columbia LP of the opera with her and Tucker for years and the program notes state she is of Slavic Stock, American and I forget her name but it was not d' angelo-- was that her married name? or is that a stage name? the recording of the opera was made in 1958 in good sound .
