Part 3 of the V&T Railfan Spectacular Series, for more info see traintrips.biz, the website of Trains and Travel International, the organizers of this $350 per person tour. From early morning March 15, 2010, I had been in Virginia City since 4am catching video of the crew prepping #29 for a full day's work.

At 6am we left the F Street Depot in Virginia City with 25 paying railfans ready for a day of up close and personal photography of the recently revived Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Two new coaches and miles of new track were the target, plus with the return of steam in 2008, it's like a whole new railroad.

This Part 3 is the "meat" of this series, with the full runbys in American Flat.

  • I see your shadow on the train starting around 1:38

  • @CoastStarlight11 Yeah this video has some of the best V&T runbys I've ever gotten. They repeat this trip this year in March again.

  • @virginiatruckee Yeah you got some amazing V&T shots in this vid.

  • @CoastStarlight11 Thanks!

  • Holy Shit! the 29 derailed!?!?!?!?!? I hope she's ok!

  • @SierraRailway Yeah, there's the official story but I think it's a little more complicated -- hope I'm wrong. Go to groups.yahoo.com/group/virginiaandtruckee1976, join up and check out the various links to photos and news stories, plus the criticism and reaction from a V&T employee -- Jim

  • Thanks for this share. The 29 looks a lot like our local Fordyce & Princeton #101. Would that she could run again would be grand. She's missing some parts like one main rod, but perhaps parts could be found from Cuba now that some trade has resumed. Of course this is just wishful thinking, but it would be a great way to bring tourists. I enjoy all of your videos.

  • very nice, but 29's valves are a bit off.

  • Very very nice video.

  • @SierraRailway 29 should be back by the end of the month. Fortunately the damage was not major. Mud from a storm covered the tracks, and Jerry Hoover couldn't tell anything was wrong. 29 was barely going 10 mph, and she slid into a ditch. The engine only suffered damage on and around the front truck. 18 has been filing in for her.

  • Oh No! Guess that rules out Tony on the walkways.

  • Thank you very much for this little trip!
