Mudbox gives artists the freedom to digitally sculpt and paint without worrying about the technical details. It is used by professionals working in film, games and television, as well as artists who work with traditional media, amateur enthusiasts, graphic designers and illustrators. http://www.autodesk.com/mudbox

  • It's fantastic that they give students an opportunity to use stuff like this for free. Thanks, Autodesk.

  • Thumbs up if this is on your christmas list!

  • I CAN'T DRAW:<

  • has anyone tried this for car design?

  • ProTip: Go to a game design school and get all of these amazing software for free. :) GG Autodesk, thanks for that.

  • @nameno1elsehas Lol! Uhh I am 33... part time is not an option. But, I know that. 6 months hasnt gotten me there, but small steps always lead me closer to my end goal... something for which mudbox is rather insignificant... And no worries, I dont believe in absolutes... so with that said, obviously even a serf can get his own mudbox/maya/cintiq/display/inventor/studio/factory/ETC... For example... I miss 2560/1600.

    :/

  • @nazaxprime You can easily get a part time job, save up the money, and buy your self a nice piece of hardware. Might take about half a year, but you don't have to be a "rich kid." Also, I had a friend hook me up with the student version of mudbox for free. Student version is not the same as the free trial.

  • @nameno1elsehas The "free" version is only a trial for 30 days. As for a production suite, I maintain that the $ + hardware + Cintiq is a sufficient barrier to limit its use to "rich kids"... unfortunately. Trying it out is one thing, but short of quitting a job or school to maximize learning during the 30 day trial, only to lose the license(which never extends to commerce anyway)... Am I missing something(other than theft)? Mudbox alone depresses me.

    I admit, I'm a bit pessimistic.

    /shrug

  • @nazaxprime or people who want to try it out without spending a ton of money. Plus, you can get this for free as a student version :P
