Here's a little clip comparing the Nobels ODR-1, Barber Small Fry, and MI Audio Blues Pro. Seems much of the distinction gets lost during recording...

  • hey i keep coming back and watching this video, very nice. could you maybe describe pros/cons of the small fry and the blues pro? i think i might get one of these as a more lead based pedal, which do you prefer?

  • Personally, I prefer the Small Fry. The Blues Pro is too far to the tubescreamer side of the spectrum. You don't really hear it on these clips so much, but it has a fair amount of midhump and some cut in the highs and lows. While the midhump is not as nasally or pronounced as a TS, it's still more than I care for, especially with bridge pickups...

  • Have to give a heart felt thanks to you for posting the video for the Nobel and the Small Fry. Several years ago I made contact with Dave Barber, (wont forget it, great guy) and now I am currently looking for a Robben Ford/Dumble sound.... The Small Fry has surfaced amoung all others including the famed Zendrive.. I remembered a dealer five miles from home that had a unsaleable ODR-1 .... mads a visit and bought it.... and next is a purchase of a Small Fry from Dave at Barber Electronics

  • You're welcome! I've heard countless great things about Mr Barber. He makes very fine pedals. I have a Tone Press and would recommend it highly as well as the Small Fry.... I might try to get my hands on an LTD SR next!

  • excellent demo, and awesome playing as well! Yeah!!!

    I ordered a new ODR-1 as a result!

Can you tell me the vintage and color of your ODR-1? Apparently they aren't consistent in tone and ouput.

Also, if you leave it in the signal path while off, does it color the tone of the guitar?

    Thanks!

  • I'm not sure how old my Nobels is, but it is one of the early green ones. It does indeed color the tone a bit. I use a loop-master and place the Nobels in one of the loops... Thanks for the kind words!

  • I want this video on my WX395 phone.

  • And now I am the proud owner of the Blues Pro pedal. It works great with my hollow body, gives it the mid boost that it needs, without squaking all over the place.

  • I've got a Nobels OD-1 plus 10th anniversary and it's very smooth and natural. The best OD you can get for under $100

  • Some VERY nice riffing....with a nice tone. Q: to what extent is the Small Fry playing a role in your sound? thx.
