A brief look at how a dead end highwat that displaced 190000 residents out of a West Baltimore community in the early 1960's still has an impact upon that community and how cultural organizing is making a difference.

  • Well if you lived in the area all your life you can see all the new and remember the old . And it was the black comunity that lived their at the time , and before my time it was an all white area my grand mom was one of the first blacks to lived in the area she paid 2 dollars a month to buy her house and her house still stand in its place today ,some of the home were empty any way , and I think the people who lived in the area should do the murals and they were and are black , .

  • The highway to nowhere really is ridiculous but thinking of all that concrete as an artistic canvas is actually very inspiring. Can't wait to see the outcome. There are thousands of artists/taggers that would love to get a piece of this. I guess its just a matter of permission and execution.

  • @beasterr completely agree. The White minority of Baltimore is very large. also, the Hispanic and Asian minorities are large too. Its very ignorant to only want black people to do the murals. The highway to nowhere doesn't belong to any group of people or any neighborhood, or any of that. It belongs to the People of Baltimore, period.

  • it sounds like a good idea but i didnt like how the guy in the video says get all black artist to do the murals...white people live in bmore too, you know? how would u feel if you heard on tv, a white person saying we need all white people to build this area up or community...you would think they was the kkk, or prejudice or something...sigh!

  • It's good to see something positive come out of the travesty that is the Highway to Nowhere.

This country lost a lot of potential when the Interstates made it possible for people of means to escape to the faceless suburbs instead of dealing with issues that could have long since been settled had we dealt with them more directly 50 years ago.

Instead, the ugliness has actually spread far beyond the 1.8 mile stretch that you folks have to look at every day.

Best of luck with your project.
