We are south bound out of Hearst Ontario on the Algoma Central. We have crossed the diamond with the CN at Oba, and now crossing the first of two floating bridges. This is a fantastic ride, with scenery that can't be beat.

Between Oba and Franz, at Mile 212 and 210, you will cross over the floating bridges of Hoodoo and Squaw Bay, on gigantic Oba Lake. These bridges are supported by pilings driven deep into the bottomless northern muskeg. Due to their construction and location, the Railway must perform maintenance on these bridges in the winter, when the lake is frozen.

  • Nice video. I want to explore more of that area this summer. I have driven into the Montreal River bridge & Franz junction. Its a beautiful landscape for sure.

  • @JayJr2007 I have been into Franz many times. Beautiful place to spend the day. Want to go into Montreal River bridge, but never did figure out how to get in there. Drove into Frater many times. It was really nice there when the station was still there opperating. Thanks for watching...

  • Im assuming that was Franz near the end. Isn't that is where you the CP line. Nice video, I could have watched the whole trip

  • @windowtinter1 Yes, that was the CP at Franz that we crossed. I should have taped more! Oh well. I also got a good bit of footage riding the Budd cars from Sudbury to White River, including crossing the diamond at Franz on the CP from the rear end, and the head end. We road the head end most of the way from WR to Sud on our way back. Crew even lets us get off to film the meets. May have to put that up on YT in a couple parts. Heard they have strict rules about that now. Thanks for watching...

  • Great footage. I grew up in Ontario, but have never seen these bridges.

  • @bluecomet390 Beautiful place up there. We are just south of the CN diamond at Oba. North of there its just plain flat tundra and then your at Hearst. Can't drive any farther north than that. We have been going up to Ontario since about 1994...
