I am sorry but you can get a better deal. Make the whole kit yourself. With only having seen one once in person and noting that the spindle was hard wood and the heath board soft, I made my first bow drill with a lkeather boot lace, my field knife and wood and tinder I found around me. Total time from start of construction to fire was 1 hour. 10 minutes to make the hearth board, the bow, the spindle, the spindle holding bit and then half an hour gathering materials and 20 for a coal,then fire.

Good job man!!! However, I do have a question for you... "What do you do if you don't have someone to show it to you in person???" My kit, with the included 23 page instruction manual, gives the beginner the best chance possible to start a fire by way of friction even if they don't have the opportunity to see a kit in person such as yourself. Now that you know how to do it, show someone else how to do it, and then another, and then another.... sooner or later, you'll start offering kits too. :)

is the knotch cut out as well?, Maybe people do buy them as a step to light a fire by friction but I still find it strange that folk wouldnt want to recognise the right wood to use in the wild, good luck

Good observation. Yes, the notch will be pre-cut and pre-tested. They will learn how to find the right wood using the instruction booklet. I go into detail on how to recognize the right materials to use as well as how to make your own cordage. I'm just giving the novice a helping hand if they want it. I sure wish this kit was available when I was learning this technique. It would have been much, much easier.

@PrimitivePrometheus i agree. A kit is a great way to start learning friction fire. I learned from the kind people here on youtube and even with all of those wonderful sources of information and help, it took me a very long time to get it right because of my materials. Kit's are great because it removes so many of the unknown variables. an awesome learning tool. i regret not buying one when i was first starting.

You dont need to have someone in person to learn this skill. You can find everything online now and youtube bowdrill videos have some good tutorials. Plus the fact that this skill is in our instincts from long ago. Eventually with enough trial and error(which is how they got so good) you can get pretty good at fire making. Selling something like this is bull. Why spend money on something you can get of the bounty of the land

how do you make your own kits? i mean, if someone was actually lost, dont you need to know how to make all this?

PrimitivePrometheus what is your favourite tinder bundle composed of? Mine is milk weed or thistle fluff and cedar bark strips surrounded my dry grass/weeds.

I've made fire every way I've ever seen except for the mixing of chemicals as is shown on some vids on here. I actually can get a fire going faster with a ferro rod then most can with matches or a lighter.I challenged a friend of mine this past Summer as a primitive camp out. I won,<10 secs
