This is the first of the Best of Batleth series. Filmed in 1999 before I could process NTSC TV quality video. It is chunky, but it is real. There is no choreography. This is to WIN.

I've been meaning to construct a wooden one for practice (I won't risk destroying a metal one, not to mention less pain). Only problem is noone to teach my how to use it. I'm also somewhat undersized for a Bat'leth
Dont get me wrong I think the Batleth is a very cool looking exotic weapon and its nice that you practise it. But if I got to say what I think as a martial artist with a lot of experience: I would say that I think its better to practise Tai Chi a real martial art instead of Mokbara, and I think learning to use the straight sword or the broadsword, a real weapon, is also better. The Batleth is also a very unpractical design of a weapon. No offence...
The Batleth is considerably slower than most terran swords. However, the weight is such that the impact and penetrating power is greater than most swords. For everything there is a trade-off. Having used terran, thlingon, and vulcan weapons, one generally favors what one is used to. I'm used to the Batleth. I prefer it to terran swords at this point.
Dunno how I'd counter a batleth. I'd probably want a short parrying weapon to meet it; a jitte or some other pronged tool. MAYBE I could entangle, step around and in, and either strike the leg and flank, or start grappling. I definitely wouldn't want to play around on the outside against it unless I was carrying a polearm.
Y'all ever spar with more traditional weapon-users? Might make for an interesting video.
You will find various other weapons, axes, pole arms in the other BoB videos BoB5 and under. By BoB6 we were no longer doing "freestyle" with non-klingon weapons.
Do you have the balls to step into the Ring and face possible broken bones just for a weekend sport? I have had... Broken finger. Broken Rib. Two dislocated thumbs. I have given... Broken nose. Broken arm. This is a Warrior's sport. A (Wo)Man's sport.

Most martial arts have had hundreds of years to develop. Considering that it's hardly 2 decades old, I think that it's come quite a way.
