I have a modem and a wireless router, I wan't to take an old PC and install smoothwall onto it. Where do I connect it?
-
this is beyond retardation.
-
@wascrash yeah, it would really help. Hopefully you've already done it, as you asked a year ago ;)
nothing beats an old PC router :D
-
hey r u using a crossover cable to connect your firwall to a router or just a regular Ethernet cable
-
@LockeF83 reason I have a router in front is because i don’t want to remove it do to my smoothie has only 100 base T NIC and my Linksys WRT600N has 1Gigabit base T because my house has a total of 7 wifi-router N protocol and gigabit running with Optimum Ultra 101Mb down15Mb Up broadband. once i get my smoothie machine to Gigabit nic i will make it my main router. in the mean time i don’t want it to control the whole house. Optimum Online requirement that I most use gigabit nic/router.switch
-
Did you setup a DMZ?
-
Does the aircon and purifier unit cut down on heat AND dust in the room? I bet the smoothie is clean as a whistle inside?
thx
hey man how do you get this to remote management? it does not seem to work for me. am i doing somethign wrong, from myu linksys router i am fowarding the port 441 also i had try dmz it to my smoothwall i dont know what's wrong. this is my setup... cable modem --> linksys router ----> smoothwall ---> gigabit switch ----> access point the linksys router had put the smoothwall into the dmz i still do not understand why i cant remote management help will be apriciated

@areacode718: I don't use Smoothwall anymore, I've switched over to PFsense.
But having said that, why are you running two routers? The Linksys and the Smoothwall. If you have DHCP enabled on both it could be where the problems are.
You really don't need the Linksys is your running a Smoothie, just a modem, a Smoothie and a switch.

Can u explain to me what the internet switch is for? and whats it good for?
rebel4055 3 years ago
The switch is a ethernet switch, it lets me network various equipment together. Without it, I'd only be able to connect a single machine to the internet and wouldn't be able to share files between machines.

Oh ok so it links all PCs together so you can share?

Yup, thats right. :-)
