Traffic on I 95 in Philadelphia on a Wednesday afternoon at 4pm on April 1st. This section is going to be rebuilt over the next decade - many of the bridges will be reconstructed, the road way will be redecked and the highway expanded. Ramps will be shut down at times while a new interchange is constructed. This is one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the country and highways are the primary method in which goods come into Philadelphia. Therefore additional congestion will likely have a significant impact on the cost of goods. Congestion is also the number one factor in air quality degradation - a concern as homes abut the highway directly. Yet a casino - with thousands if not tens of thousands of additional cars - will create a surge in traffic on a highway that is already at capacity and will have restricted capacity over the next decade. The City - the Sugarhouse Casino nor the state have addressed how this increased in traffic can be managed during construction.
