@Teigokane Engine Flameout? maybe

I didn't realize Convair had an entrant in the 4-engine jetliner competiton with
the DC-8 and 707...BTW, all the paeans to oldtime air travel leave out one big factor: cost. Very few could afford air travel in those days.

Just look at those trays of food and the way it's served...Ah, the days when people were polite and service was worth the money paid. I remember flying in a TWA super connie in 1961, I was just a kid, but sure noticed the niceties on board. I flew a CV 990 and Pan Am 707 in 1964, the CV 990 was better. And people...Dressed up for church, "Could you sir?" "Of course, please do" ...Today is no better than an LA traffic congestion in rush hour, only inches away from you.

What is the object flying by at 00:50?

im 15 but at the sametime this is amazing!! air travel use to be a luxury thing everybody would dress up and look goood now you go on it like if you would to a party or a bar of course this plane is nothing compare to an a340 the 880 of the 20th century!! this is awesome!!

The name "Convair" stood for Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft, a company that would later merge with the Electric Boat Company to form General Dynamics Corporation.

Good luck in getting a decent meal on an airliner nowadays.

To respond to the many quips..."was it better back then?". Yes, in some ways. It's safer now, but as mentioned, flying was way beyond the budget of most individuals and families. Need to console yourself? 1st class is still cheaper in relative cost as coach was back then. Just book 1st, and pretend you're on a really fast L-188 with a huge bus bolted to the back. Market forces, even before the online clearing houses, drove the change. Be careful what you ask for... cheap airfares-help yourself.
When I was a kid I flew with my folks on these. Those were certainly the days when flying was a luxury and whether it was by plane or train people "dressed up" to travel this way and we kids were scrubbed and in our best clothes. Today I see some who fly looking like they're street walkers or something and the plane isn't anything more than a human cattle car.
