Ice Boat

It was a great day for ice boating on Lake Winnebago in Neenah, Wisconsin. The ice conditions and a steady wind made for a fast day of sailing with speeds approaching 50mph. The ice boat is piloted by Mark Frank from the Neenah Ice Yacht Club.

How fast can you go on these things and how fast are u going here?

I was going about 40 mph. The fastest I have gone was close to 100 mph in winds of 25-35mph. Thanks for your comments.

Yes, the season can be very short or not exist! This year we are snowed out with about 16" of snow on the ice. Hopefully it will be better next year. Thanks for your comments.

how much is the rent of the ice boat and how much time is it?

I don't know anyone that rents iceboats. If you are lucky some may give rides.

I had this totally random dream last night that I was ice boating at a high rate of speed on our lake in upstate NY. I've never done it before, so the first thing I did when I got up the AM was check YouTube knowing there would be plenty of clips, and this is the first clip I saw ... and this is exactly what was in my dream...just rippin' down a smooth lake. I HAVE to try this! P.S. Great video.

I know that it might sound a little strange in this context, but as I am designing custom iceboat I need to find out the answer to the question: What is the drag in Newtons of tha ice boat's 3 skids when sailing 60 km/h? Even rough estimation will help me ;) Well it is said that this drag is very low, and hence iceboats are very fast but I need numbers, numbers, numbers! Thanks for any help
