Respectfully, I agree with you to a point. The Soviets mobilized 35 million men and women, of which 26 million saw action. 8.8 million dead and 6 million wounded took a toll. However, the Soviets moved 2 million troops to the east in June-August 1945 and thrashed the Japanese army in less than a week. Not a country or army on its last legs, but definitely an innate demographic/gender problem for the Soviets. By 1958 the population ratio was normal again.

@toffanful - Respectfully, I would have to disagree a bit. Stalin had no pitty, grattitude or appriciation. Stalin could kill one million people and sleep like a baby at night. Russia did win the war but towards the end, they where utterly manpower exhausted. Along with the civilian deaths the military was running on empty when it came to finding raw recruits and not collapse the society in regards to labor. 26.6 million out of a population of 196 million.

@stevenabb You're incorrect. Stalin recognized the Finns refusal to completely seal off Leningrad. In return, the Soviets took the territories they won in the Winter War but did not invade and occupy Finland. Even Marshall Mannerheim recognized the Soviet move as a begrudging thank you.

The Fins refused to attack Russia beyond their borders. And what did they get for this restraint, the Russians attacked the Fins and took a lot of terratory. If you get in a fight, don't hold back or play nice guy during a war.... Stupid Fins!
