I saw this movie when I was in Jr High, back in '61, made a hugh impression on me, not sure it was the very best western I ever saw but it was memorible
I don't know if this take is from 1961, but Johnny already recorded this back in 1959, with Eddie Cochran on guitar. So if anybody was inspired by the title, it ought to be Brando! But was Brando a Rock & Roll man?
The original record came out in march 61, it was a B side to his 5th Liberty single: Big big world/Ballad of the one eyed jacks, I think it was in the top 50 or something...There are two different versions of this song, both recorded at the same time. I got this song on the 2nd volume of the compilation "the complete recordings 1955-1964", and I guess this is the original single version, but I might be mistaken :)
@RoverTCB i have a 45 single and it sounds quite different.this has more guitar and background vocals

@greaserleo It's one of the best films period. My third favorite western.

This is not the single version, which I have. The words aren't the same.

Sounds like some people still dared to use a slappin' doghouse bass on recordings in '61!
