@Bassai Training against unorthodox street attacks are problematic. The problem is ppl have a tendency to fight the way they train. Someone who has spent a considerable amount of time polishing technique will consequently be asked to "simulate" these "wild man" attacks for training purposes. As surely as I speak, you will start to see trained student using these unorthodox forms when they're not supposed to be doing so! LOL! Muscle memory and instinct will take over! HAHAHAHA!

@Bassai Yeah! All u have to do is to suit em up in some protective gear and put em in the ring with a Kali man for some sumbrada knife training. They'll learn to the the Ali shuffle PDQ!

@osensei2987 Let me try to send it to you via You Tube e-mail...

@Bassai Osu! I'd be honored.

@osensei2987 Another "useless" one: Manji Gamae. When my brother decided to open a website for his school (which is closed now, damn recession), I wrote an article for him after doing research on its applications, both in JKA and in my Shorin school. I even took pictures and made three clips showing possible practical interpretations. I'm hesitant to upload my vids on You Tube, due to the many idiots online here, but I'd send the article plus the pics and vids to you if you'd like.

@Bassai Also, I often use shuto uke against the opponents elbow which results in blocking across his center and closing that line. This forces him to punch across his own body. It is easy to turn the technique into an outside Pak (Wing Tsun) or even a Jut or Lop. If u shuto vs ur opponent's natural elbow movement then any slight bend in his elbow can result in his fist in ur face. Also the fumikomi geri in Basai Dai can actually be like an Uchimata as in Judo but also in Shoalin Shuaxio!

@osensei2987 We have about the same meaning for morote-uke, as it was explained in a Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu (one of the Okinawan forerunners of Shotokan) class I took. As we reviewed Pinan Shodan (Shotokan's Heian Nidan), our sensei (Sensei Crevani, NYC) explained that morote-uke was primarily a block and strike combo in close range, with the right hand as performing the block and the left hand as the strike (to solar plexus or floating rib). IN JKA, its just a simple block (silly).

@Bassai I know! I've often struggled with morote uke! LOL! Either it's the worst block in the history of MA or it's not intended to be a block at all. As a matter of fact, I stay true to the kata in the dojo. But secretly, I've abandoned the whole notion of blocking altogether Rather I've translated the blocks into simultaneous attack and defense motions similar to Wing Tsun trapping. Morote uke becomes like pak da, shuto uke becomes an inside parry and hit as in Filipino Kali.
