If you've been riding the Metra Rock Island Line the last several years, you've had a front row seat to the CHA's "Plan for Transformation" on the south side; Hilliard Homes, Dearborn, Ickes, Stateway Gardens and Robert Taylor Homes are right next to the tracks.

This train, in push mode, is passing Metra's 49th Street shops, just on the other side of this embankment north of 51st St.

I hope the engineer slowed down at the 47th Street crossover; there have been two serious derailments there in the last four years.

  • @Amtrak1194 You're probably thinking of the Heritage Corridor to Joliet, which has 6 trains on weekdays and none on the weekends (I don't know why they even bother). The Rock Island, which also goes to Joliet, has almost 70 trains on weekdays, plus trains on Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Aren't there only six trains per day on the RI line?
