After over 10 years in a cellar in Derbyshire, flooded in 2007, this engine was removed early in 2010 and stored in Derbyshire. A team of volunteers had her running for the first time on a sub-zero day in November, 2010.

She will be moved to the museum in 2011.

  • is it a 2 stroke?

  • @05clenharth Three cylinder two-stroke scavenged with a Rootes type blower.

  • If that engine got away on you where you going to snuff it out with that white rubber piece?

  • @StevesBeast Yep, I think the plan was to blank the inlet with the rubber and starve it, I was safe 180 miles away :-)

  • There's one of those at the Fort Allen Farm Show Grounds in Scottdale Pennsylvania. I sooooo want to put it in a truck.

  • i need that to power my go kart

  • I worked with GM Detroit Diesels and EMD's nearly thirty years in Australia, never saw one like that. It looks almost like an opposed piston engine? However I'm very familiar with the phrase, 'hang on to that lever' :) Roughly what year would this one have been made? . Impressive site, keep it up, if I ever get to the UK I'd love to see your museum.

  • 3-268? Is each cylinder really 268 cubic inches? This engine looks very different compared to most Detroits I've seen. is it more closely related an EMD?

  • Love the way Gm's settle at their rated speed within a few seconds regardless of how long they've been stopped- very important where frequency is concerned.

  • how many volt need a starting motor? (A che tensione funziona il motorino di avviamento?)

  • never been too chuffed about GM diesels, even the awesome sounding detroits. Perhaps because they're GM.

  • i know where there is one of these around here.. its running a sawmill..
