My 3rd kyu Aikido exam, on 9 July, 2011. Many thanks to my mentor and uke, Leonara Simonovis, who generously trained with me for weeks, to Dave Goldberg Sensei, and all the teachers and students at Aikido of San Diego (www.aikidosd.com).

As usual, I see plenty of room for improvement. (I guess that's what the 2nd kyu test is for!) But on the whole I'm pretty happy with how I did.

At our dojo, unranked, 6th, and 5th kyu wear white belts. 4th and 3rd wear blue belts. 2nd and 1st wear brown belts. All yudansha ranks wear black belts and hakama (long black flowing pants, kind of like chaps). So as a 3rd kyu I am still a blue belt.

My 6th, 5th, and 4th kyu tests are also on YouTube, if you want to watch them. Better yet (if you don't practice Aikido already), come watch a class (we, and most dojos, welcome observers), and then try it for yourself.

Also, thank to my sweetie pie, Michael Eskin, for endless support, and for getting great video!

  • Go Linda!!!! (Cheers from Sydney :) )

  • @MsLinTal - Thank you. :-)

  • what style is this?

  • @morikaidoyoshinkan Thank you for the question. I would not characterize it as any particular style. I guess ultimately it's my style. :-) My teacher has trained with several teachers, including Morihiro Saito Sensei, Frank Doran Sensei, and most recently Robert Nadeau Sensei. My Aikido has also been influenced by training with others at our dojo who have trained under a variety of other teachers. Much of our weapons work comes from Iwama, but is not limited to conforming to that style.

  • Congratulations!

  • @bauerandrej - Thank you! I'm sorry I didn't notice your comment until now. All the best. :-)

  • It seems like you're making great progress! I just started training in Aikido as well and it's been great fun so far.

  • Thank you. :-)
