New larger capacity drives (e.g. 2.5TB, 3TB) are now available for purchase in 3.5in SATA models. Drobo supports the use of these high-capacity drives in Drobo systems to allow users to continue to expand their Drobo storage.

Users of Drobo products can download and apply a free firmware update for their Drobo system and make use of drives 3TB.

Availability of these firmware updates is based on the following schedule:

Firmware 1.1.0 for the Drobo FS and DroboPro FS adds support for 3TB drives and is available.

Firmware 2.1.0 for the Drobo S adds support for 3TB drives and is available.

Estimated Release Schedule For Other Models:

Q1 2011 = Drobo 8-bay for Business (model B800i and B800fs)

Q2 2011 = DroboElite, DroboPro, Drobo (4-bay)

If you would like to be notified when the firmware update has been released, subscribe to this KB entry by clicking the "Notify" icon at the bottom of the page. All software updates are posted on the "Software Updates" page of our website.

Drobo offers customers the option of procuring bundled drives. A 3TB drive (Western Digital Green WD30EZRSDTL) is available for purchase at our online store, and may also be offered in select bundles in 2011.

NOTE: Drobo customers and users involved in video surveillance are highly encouraged to use server-grade 7200RPM drives, or purchase Drobo 8-bay SAN Storage-for-Business bundles.

  • @wakeupscreaming It finally finished. Took about 2 days though.

  • I have a 2nd Gen 4-bay Drobo with my Mac Pro. I had 3x 2TB and 1 1TB harddrives, and replaced the 1TB with a 3TB just 2 days ago. I updated dashboard, then firmware. My HD's were pretty full to begin with, and it's been over 2 days now that it's been flashing yellow and green on the dashboard with "Data protection is in progress, you can access your data, but don't remove any blinking harddrives". Not sure if it's the Mac that went into sleep mode the first night, that it's taking so long? Or?

  • i added a drive today is does not recognize it ... will not format it ... just says drive failure ... put the drives back in and its taking 25 hours to verify the data - went to the drobo site and could not get into the support area even though i am registered went to there face book page posted on there wall for help to get the drive going ... to luck as of yet -
