I have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. Out of 6hrs and 4min of recording, I only slept for a total of 4hrs and 49min. Never entered REM sleep. Out of the 4 hours of sleep, I had around 458 episodes of apnea, averaging around 99 an hour. I was fitted with my mask this morning. I will have another sleep study this Wed to calibrate the flow of air on the machine. I will need to be on the mask at least 6-8 weeks before surgery (and of course, all the time thereafter.) My main concern is I do not want this to interfere with the surgeon submitting the paperwork to the insurance company. I don't mind waiting two months for surgery; I just need to know that insurance will approve it.
