What more can he take.

An Iraqi journalist threw shoes at President Bush during a news conference in Baghdad, where Bush was making a surprise farewell visit. Bush ducked, and the shoes, flung one at a time, sailed past his head during the news conference with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in his palace in the heavily fortified Green Zone. The Iraqi journalist, Muntadhar al-Zeidi, with Egypt-based al-Baghdadia television network, threw the shoes yelling out that "this is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, dog." While pinned on the ground by security personnel, he screamed you killed the Iraqis!" While al-Zaidi was carried away and still screaming in another room, Bush said "that was a size 10 shoe he threw at me, you may want to know." Hurling shoes at someone, or sitting so that the bottom of a shoe faces another person, is considered an insult among Muslims. Shoes are generally taken off before entering a home and are considered very dirty. Hitting someone with a sole of a shoe is to insult and debase another person by equating them with the dirt and filth on the bottom of a shoe. During the fall of Baghdad in 2003, those who tore down the statue of Saddam Hussein slapped the statue's face with their shoes. The event served as an end to the "Mission Accomplished" moment in May 2003, when President Bush appeared on the USS Abraham Lincoln, standing before a banner that said "Mission Accomplished," and praised the troops who had defeated the Iraqi government. Among online pundits and other Iraqi journalists, there was concern that the incident would cast a black mark on the country as it struggles through its rebirth. On the other side, many have hailed the shoe-throwing journalist as a hero, symbolizing the anti-Bush sentiment felt by some across Iraq. U.S. officials point out that al-Zeidi was not summarily executed, as he would have been under Saddam Hussein. They say that security has increased for many in Baghdad, parts of the country are returning to normal, and that a democratically elected government proves Iraq is on the right course.
