Georgia-Russia border post re-opens

A border post between Russia and Georgia re-opens for traffic and trade after four years, a development welcomed by locals.

But the move is hardly a sign of improving relations between the two neighbours. The border post was shut after tensions between Russia and Georgia escalated in 2006, a situation that eventually lead to a five day war in 2008.

Businesses hope the re-opening will bring a much-needed economic boost to the region, but Georgian officials are adamant that there will be no thaw in relations with Moscow.

Matthew Collin reports from the Kazbegi region on the Georgia-Russia border.

Medvedev blames Georgia for the war??? My god is that guy an ass! Russia sent it's storm troopers into georgia with no warning or provocation. They're fighter aircraft bombed buildings and homes and he blames Georgia? Oh and don't forget the failed assasination attempt on Georgia's president when he was expected to win election. Russia has been after Georgia and its natural gas reserves for several years now. Oh and Medvedev was Putin's lackey so don't expect anything he says to be the truth.

More countries would mean more diversity, more competition, and more culture. More countries would radically increase our border patrols and self defense due to an increase in the perimeter of our borders. An increase in independent control would allow for a steadier flow of immigration through the gateways.
