@oregonskateok Music is in a mind, not on paper. Knowledge of the theory only makes it quicker/simpler to write it down from head to paper. Though I agree for complex stuff knowledge of the theory simplifies it a lot.

how do you know they can't anyway musical taste is purely SUBJECTIVE!!!!!!!!! having said that Indian music (sitar and all that) has enharmonic series of up 34 notes between an octave.. Watch a thing called "how music works" - by Howard Goodhall anyway the world in which we live in people would much rather listen to "FUCK" music than any other types - justin timberlake I'm looking at you - oh and madonna stole her act of Cyndi Lauper

A List, I agree with Oregon. You are correct, however that many musicians who have no book lernin' 'bout music theory have written a lot of great music. Some of it is pretty complex, too. The interesting thing is that in a way you put down the very people you were trying to raise up. You see, music theory is all about understanding real pitch relationships and rhythm. So, it is common for a musician to actualy know theory but not be able to explain it. It's better to have both tho. Agree?
