The Fall of the Western World?
A landmark 90min theatrical documentary.
The goal of every culture is to decay through over-civilisation; the factors of decadence -- luxury, skepticism, weariness and superstition -- are constant. The civilization of one epoch becomes the manure of the next.
Part one examines the growing greed of society and the 80's ideal that greed it good. It also looks at the growing disparity between rich and poor.
Modern lifestyle:
1. work in a shitty job most part of the lifetime
2. spend everything
3. borrow to spend more than you can afford
4. work to repay debts for the rest of your life
5. die

Interesting that the show was filmed during year 2006, during economic boom. The guy in this part says it will be either a new renaissance or a new dark age, and we don't know which one yet. Now as we're in year 2009, the global economy went down the drain and it's just the beginning. So the odds are getting clearer now.
