Leeds Met's partnership with Northern Ballet Theatre has enabled students to gain cutting-edge media production skills.

The ten students, drawn from the faculties of Innovation North and Arts & Society, gained valuable experience of working in a high-pressure environment, as they worked alongside Leeds Met Video Production in filming a dress rehearsal of Northern Ballet Theatre's production of Peter Pan.

The students, who are studying on a range of courses, including Music Technology, Film & Moving Image, Media & Popular Culture, helped shoot footage which will be used in a promotional film highlighting the work of Northern Ballet Theatre, which enjoys a strong and productive partnership with Leeds Met.

Sarah Bentley, an MA Screen Media & Cultures student said: "This project has given me the confidence to know that I can cope in a high pressure media environment, and that is going to be essential when I graduate and look for future employment"

Her comments were echoed by BSc Music Technology student Steven Shields, who said: "More people should get involved in this kind of thing if you go out and get this kind of experience you get the hands-on skills you wouldn't necessarily learn until you actually get into the job you want.

"We were able to input our own ideas into the set-up and it was great working in a professional environment with a real life client."

Mike Hooper, Producer, Leeds Met Video Team, concluded: "We were really surprised with the students who came and worked with us on this project.

"There was a wide variety of skills in the group and we really threw them into the deep end but the students conducted themselves very well and were able to produce a very polished piece of work for Northern Ballet Theatre which I think they can all be proud of."
