Jamie shows how she checks her blood sugar, something she has to do between 10 and 12 times a day. People with diabetes have to check their blood sugar levels when they wake up, every time they eat, before and after exercise, if they don't feel well, before driving, and before going to bed. Depending on what those bedtime levels are, sometimes people with diabetes have to set an alarm (or ask Mom or Dad) to check their blood sugar in the middle of the night too. Knowing what your blood sugar level is is crucial to diabetes management, letting you know if you need more insulin, less insulin, or if you need to eat something right away. Jamie's fingers are completely calloused from having to check her blood sugar levels so often. @mermaidofsuburbia Well if you would "freakout and die) at 262 then you must not be a Type One diabetic because every Type 1 has a BG in the 200s. I have been 703 before because the omnipod failed and did not alarm! and here I am to tell that story! If you never go over 110 then you are not diabetic!

I would freak out and DIE if my sugar was that high! What on earth are you eating? I try never to go over 110. And by the way, the ADA won't be happy until they kill us all with their nonsense - I hope you don't follow their guidelines.
