There never is (nor should there ever be) a demand for donation. What you're seeing in this video is a hybridized form of Buddhism that has been combined with ancient Thai religious & spiritual beliefs, thus the stress on magical charms & amulets, protective tattoos, ritual blessings & these ridiculous sideshow knife demonstrations. In fact, reliance on magically blessed amulets goes against the teachings of Buddha in the first place ~ by focussing on some ITEM, it is only causing

It is all about being self-aware, meditating, being in the moment, & finding enlightenment. That is all about NOW, while you are alive - not tomorrow, not after you're dead. Living your life being "good" simply because you're behaving well in anticipation of getting into "heaven" is actually a very potent form of suffering. You should be good because that is your nature, because you have found inner peace, not because you fear punishment or anticipate reward in the so-called afterlife.
-
The only "reward" is that you will have inner peace that you yourself worked for & found, freeing yourself from the ties that bind. Buddha taught about "living right," but not in order to get any promised reward from some higher being, or get into some ridiculous imaginary place in the sky after one dies ( ie, "heaven"). Nor did he use fear or threat of painful punishment to scare people into believing anything. There is nothing mystical about enlightenment; there are no secret rituals or spells

enlightenment, or nirvana, while ALIVE. The Buddha was an ordinary man, the same as you & me, flesh & bone, who lived & died, who NEVER claimed to be godlike or anything more than just an average human being. He was as faulty as any other human, with the same emotions, needs & desires, and he made many mistakes himself. Making mistakes is the only way to learn, though. Buddha shows us that we all have Buddha-nature within us (even the lowliest insects) & everyone is capable of being the Buddha.

@lanxang817 you are so wrong about Buddhism, if you think it's the same as Christian or Muslim, although I can understand why you would think that because of this video & others like it that depict Buddhist monks charging money after these little sideshow demonstrations designed to sell their magically "blessed" trinkets...but Buddha taught nothing about the so-called "afterlife," he was concerned with life on earth, right here & now, and how to be self-aware & clear away the ignorance to find

worse suffering on the part of the believers who think they become invincible to bullets & knives. The Buddha never sold blessed items or took money for blessing people or performing services; in fact the only thing he did was beg for 1 meal a day like many ascetics did (and still do) and teach people how to meditate & live life. All he owned was a simple prayer mala, his robes, and a bowl, there was no importance much on material items.
