The fuel oil is the consistency of marmite; making it exceedingly hard to pump (it requires heating to make it more fluid)
It can't be towed as it hit the reef at 17 knots and the front third is on the reef.
New Zealand does't have a floating-sea-going-crane.

Looks like the interview created some debate Vinnie. Don't worry about the imbeciles who want to down play it – this could have been ten times worse if it had been an oil tanker – there are a lot of comfortable people who live behind desks and usually work as managers in this country. They don't want to know about how the workers and environment are being wrecked through the maritime and fisheries capitalists. Thanks for having us on the show!
