This is footage I shot on vacation with my wife. I love this Nickel Creek album, and this song is great. Enjoy the California Coast. I will be posting a scenic shot of just waves crashing 6 to 8 minutes long for you to enjoy. Click this link to get to it.

Tom Bombadil WAS part of the LordOfTheRings and he should have been included in the movie...

yeah I have the extended version and I was sad when I saw it wasn't in it.

Tom Bombadil is awsome. He's a sort of an Elf, Gandalf and Tolkien himself mix. A kind of anti-Sauron

I'm quite sure Tom Bombadil was a metaphor for God, and Goldberry a metaphor for nature. Remember how Goldberry described him: 'eldest.'

tom wasn't in the movie because the movies were, unfortunately, made for the people who had never even read or heard of the books. the movie was not made for the hard core Tolkien fans/scholars. while the movies were amazing, the only fantasy genre movie to ever win an Oscar (let only 9!) and are worth watching over and over again (extended only lol screw the theatrical versions) the story was butchered because a lot of the population especially the younger generations don't read

@Tabla461 Because the movies were already incredibly long and the idea of Tom Bombadil was the easiest concept to cut from the story as it would have been one of the hardest for the readers to grasp and the least relevant to the facets of the story that Jackson was attempting to illuminate.

Yeah, but there's the issue, they had to pace it differently because it was a film, as opposed to something you could read and absorb on your own (not in a theater). I remember Interviews where they stated that they felt the films were too short too put everything they wanted in, and they run about the 3 hour mark. Honestly I think they did a great job, and some things had to be cut realistically, so I'm happy they were able to keep in what they had.

I think Tom wasn't in the movie because he doesn't really fit the mood of the movie right before the hobbits reach Bree. Plus, I kind of like the fact that he stays only a literary entity. After all, he was in "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil" way before the Books were written. Even Tolkein himself said it's best that somethings stay a mystery. I think Tom is one of them.

i've seen the movies, and ive read the first book, and am starting the second. I too wonder why in the world Tom Bombadil was not in the movie! this was a huge mistake made by the producer. He would've made the first movie a little more enjoyable in my opinion ;)
