  • L/D wasn't the problem. He had full flaps on which will bring the glider down if he had just pulled in more. He did a series of S-turns and mild partial stalls to lose altitude. If he had just dove it more on the last or next to last dive he would have had no problem. Instead of dumping altitude, he just floated it in.

    I always fly a standard "downwind, base, and final" aircraft approach. I think it can handle a wider variety of landing situations.
