Final of play project, - without sound (for now) due to restraints

Play, a Conclusion

The final piece became a far more upbeat animation than expected compared too much of the research which would have been set in a much darker atmosphere. Choosing to make an animation for this project meant time management had to be observed scrupulously. The final piece was successful in that it allowed me to explore a playful side of me through nearly improvisational animating, rather than using storyboards, which for this- would have staled the pace and excitement.

Choosing the bright colours with warm lighting enhanced a feeling of old time play, like when a child imagines their toys coming to life after they left the room.
I felt I couldnt follow too close a path to Dryden Goodwins photographs as they had the wrong mood, but the right amount of a personal persona to capture interest.

Looking over the sketchbook now, I can see a journey towards the final piece, but during research, experimentation and observation, I was worried that I was being too broad and none of the project would have anything to do with each other. However now looking back, and also during the later stages of the project I found a clear pathway that led me to such a playful final piece.

This was creating a sense of empathy and enjoyment with an unknown character. Especially using the hand (although slightly eerie in appearance), one generates a sense of rapor with the hand wrist and forearm playing with the self animation materials. The mark making I explored paid off in an obscure way when I made the set, going back in my head to memories of nursery school and how every type of art was new. Making hand prints with paint on my hands was invigorating and satisfying and ended up the best method to use for background, rather than using stencils and being too meticulous towards a project with the name of Play.
