@hjpelham What you are seeing is the nice, relaxed ankle taking more of her weight as she stands, nothing more. She actually has a very nice steady leg. If you get the opportunity to watch many beginners in the phase of learning to post, you will see some of them allowing the lower leg actually swing back and forth several inches along the horse's side.

Uhm... Whatever happened to the shoulder-hip-heel alignment?

They chose a pretty crappy rider to demonstrate how to trot. Her legs are so far back, and this is why she's leaning forward. She's literally pushing down on the stirrup when she rises, and you can see how much this is pushing back her lower leg back. She needs to learn to trot with her thighs. You only need to rise a few inches out of your saddle! This will help lower her centre of gravity, improve her position and anchor her into her lower leg.

I had forgotten all about this song... (Incubus - Aqueous Transmission)
Is this girl holding her calf against the horse to keep it still? The stirrup leather angles back in the down phase as she holds her calf against horse and then shoots forward slightly but not much as the stirrup leather goes straight on the up phase. Should the stirrup leather always be straight up and down at all times during the rising trot?
