Palin probably only accepted the nomination because she knows McCain dying is the only way she can be president. No one would ever elect her if she ran herself.

It wasn't just Lieberman who couldn't keep a straight face though. I remember Gingrich chuckling mischievously when asked something similar, and, just like Lieberman, quickly recomposing himself.
That slight difference in their reactions tells you a lot about their character. Lieberman laughed, but felt uneasy. Gingrich took a perverse joy in it.

he isnt actually a member of the democratic party any longer. He caucuses with them and holds his chairmanships by way of their continued support. Other than being a massive pulsing hemorrhoid inside the Dem. party... he does vote (aside from certain foreign policy issues) consistently with the Democratic party.
