We hiked in from China Camp in Carmel Valley and walked the Pine Ridge from there to Big Sur. This Video has Redwood camp first and then Sykes Hot Springs.

the canyon doesn't get much sun this time of year. The clossest camp spot is just before the large fallen redwood that you can see from the springs. the springs are about a 1/2 mile down stream from where the trail first reaches the Big Sur river. Watch in the river for creatures enjoying the warm seaps in front of the springs.
