This records an interchange between Allconnex reps and residents of Westminster Boulevard, Elanora, Queensland, Australia, who are currently objecting to the installation of a superfluous microwave tower. On this day, they are specifically objecting to the destruction of Koala habitat on site, namely the clearing of line of site trees to prepare for installation of the tower right next to the home of a paraplegic resident who lives with his pensioner mother.
The emissions from the tower will "fry" any flying creature that passes through its beam. There must be a surplus of lorikeets and eagles in the area (not !). In addition the location of the tower will block access to the established fire trail which facilitates access for the local bush fire brigade. Allconnex, the formation of which has been the subject of massive community resentment, wants to put the tower on the site of what was formerly publicly accessible land. This place previously served as a meeting point for the surrounding community until it was closed off by GCCC under the spurious excuse of "protection against terrorists". It has previously been the subject of a successful civic action against the installation of a 25 m tower to house a Telstra mobile base station. This video is but one of a series soon to be released which further demonstrate the insensitivity and arrogance of Allconnex. The residents want nothing less than a clearance of the site of telco equipment and a re-opening to public access for all the community. They require that the land be given back for public use.
