We've all heard of fingerprints solving crimes, but how about "bite" prints? The technique has been around for a while, but hasn't always been reliable. As this ScienCentral News video shows, scientists are now stepping in to improve what's known about bite marks as evidence, and make it easier for law enforcement to take a "bite out of crime."

For anyone who thinks that bite marks are a wast of time; I work at a Rape Crisis Center and believe me bite marks are a very valuable tool in cases of sexual abuse. It not only is used for evidence that might help a surviver get the right person that sexually assaulted them in jail, but it also shows roughness which might even help to prove that there was a fight involved if nothing else. I'm sorry for you that are not informed of such things.

If it would really be a cost effective tool to solve cases or to prevent future ones, I would say to collect these samples like they do fingerprints, when driver's licenses are obtained. Most people these days don't bite or have fist fights, they just shoot you.
Great book, Red Dragon; serial killer named Francis Dollarhyde, putting his own deceased grandmother's false teeth in his mouth before biting his victims. Very disturbing!
