@beckham48england No book or maker suggestions, but here's a checklist. Make sure the wheel has all of its parts (spindles and tensioners like to go missing). The only thing you should have to supply is a drive band (sturdy cotton string works fine) and maybe a cotter pin for the wheel itself (you can make one out of a common bright nail). Inspect the wood, looking for cracks or missing pieces (check every spoke). Turn the wheel and the spindle (will likely need oil). Tada, walking wheel basics!
Any suggestions regarding reading (books, websites) about great wheels/walking wheels to educate myself prior to purchase? Questions to ask? Where to look? Makers? etc.
