World-renowned artist Missionary Mary L. Proctor tells me the story about the piece of work I bought from her Saturday, April 15, 2011, at the Folk Art Show in Winter Park, FL., Hannibal Square.
Mary began painting and creating artwork 15 years ago after her Grandma, Aunt and Uncle died in a house fire. She said that Grandma came to her in a vision and told her to use her words of wisdom to create works of art.
She uses paint, cloth, tin, cans, pennies, buttons, cookie tins, 102-year-old pieces of tin, wire, metal to create mixed media on canvas, glass plates, wood, doors.
Mary's from Tallahassee where her work is housed and made at her American Folk Art Museum & Gallery.
