Lorry crashes are the number one cause of cyclist fatalities. Please write to your council today (using our online tool at http://lcc.org.uk/pages/safer-lorries) to help reduce the death toll on our streets.

It's all very pretty but over-long. The 50% / 5% statistic is a great one, and should be the salient point.

I'm a cyclist, bike shop owner and LCC member but I still see more problems on London's roads caused by idiot cyclists going up the inside of lorries and buses than I see unaware lorry drivers. It's easier to blame lorry drivers because they're the ones who survive but when will we see a "don't ride like a twat" campaign?

Such a good point ratracecycles. I wish more cyclists would stop at zebra crossings when pedestrians are trying to cross. Enjoy the ride but don't be a dick about it.

Try and advise most of the morons on bike about their actions and they'll tell yo to eff off 90% of the time. Now I just promise to write nice obituaries for them.

Scary to see this as a daily commuter in NYC. Hope to see some new regulations and cycling infrastructure soon. Here's to safer streets and fewer accidents- jack

Sadly I feel some agreement on this, a bad call by LCC. T&E report should be used as basis for some damning facts. 1) the 5% kill 20% 2) lack of direct vision on MOST current trucks (but not all) 3) No Collision Management (CMS) provision. For 2 NO EU MINIMUM STANDARD for direct vision from driving position. For 3 NO EU CMS REQUIREMENT for trucks & EU design regs encourage use of cabs with no deflection/crumple zone such as ENCAP delivers for cars. Sort 2&3 & T&E estimate deaths could be cut 50%

Since 2009 lorries over 3.5 tonnes must have kerb view and wide angle mirrors showing 85% or 95% field of vision, so there shouldnt be a blind spot. Trouble is the drivers often dont use them! They should all be sent on 'cyclist awareness' training

I don't think that the video blames truck driver or cyclists unduly. The accident has already occured at the beginning so viewers can't really tell whose fault it is - that's actually what I like about this video because often safety campaigns tend to blame the victim. However, all thing being equal an accident with a truck is more likely to cause death than an accident with a car because the truck packs more kinetic energy; this law of physics probably explain part of the statistic mentioned.

Im a cyclist, but alot of the time, the cyclist is at fault. Ever seen cyclist weaving in and out of traffic dangerously, not stationary traffic, moving traffic on edgware road? Need to campaign to get through to the stupid cyclists who give us a bad name.

Hi Ratrace and the football guy. I found the video very moving. I do agree with you both. Oddly enough I've been stopped by police more times on my bike than I ever did in my car, and I was a dickhead driver. So there is a campaign. In this great city all routes should have safe cycle lanes so undertaking a lorry wouldn't kill you. We can sort the petty stuff out later lets reduce cycle death to 0 first (yes it is possible)
