Thank you for uploading this. I always wondered what my dad and his fellow World War II Navy fighter pilot buddies were talking about when they mentioned naval gunnery having computers back then.

This machine is incredible. So simple in operation yet only made so by absolute precision in design. Makes the mechanisms of a modern digital electric computer look rather inelegant by comparison.

@navyreviewer - God damn you, that's untold hundreds more doomed to leave my bank account. :))) Yay! And more bookshelves to buy! Online bookshop links/hints, please?
If you want interesting naval stuff in general, go to archive.org and you can find the Transactions of the Institution of Naval Architects going back a hundred years or so, plus all sorts of interesting things about naval shipbuilding and gunnery. Awesome.

Nice! I always wondered how the old mechanical fire control computers worked. Thank you!
Essential viewing for anyone who's read Norman Friedman's "Naval Firepower" - this series of vids makes it SO much easier to understand.

@jsm666 Ahhh Norman Friedman. Anyone even mildly interested in US WWII ships owe him an eternal debt for his "..... illustrated design" series.
