In the recently concluded (1st - 4th Dec.2011) 66th World Homoeopathic Congress organized by Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis has brought some ray of hope to the patients suffering from MND ( Motor Neuron Disease) , a fast progressive degenerative disorder which leads to progressive paralysis and eventual death, according to the Scientific paper and study presented by Prof. Dr.A.K.Gupta. The conference was held at Siri Fort Auditorium and attended by nearly 2200 doctors from all over the Globe. Apart from India, doctors from 36 countries participated in this congress . Doctors from Asian countries, doctors from Europian countries like Germany, Holland, France, Russia, Polland,, Australia, America, Mexico , Canada , Spain etc. participated in the conference. Dr. Jose Matuk, President LMHI informed that the next World Homoeopathic Congress would be held in Japan in 2012.
The 4 days International Congress was inaugurated by Shri. Gulam Nabi Azad Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare , Govt. of India. In his inaugural address the minister said that Homeopathy is cost effective and very effective in some condition which are considered incurable . He emphasized on pursuing the research in AYUSH department. He also said that Homoeopathy has been included in the National Health Programs. In the interest of suffering humanity an integrated and holistic approach would the most suitable to combat the disease at large. While applauding the Homoeopathic System of Medicine he informed that the National Institutes will be settled. After the Congress a delegation of nearly 100 Indian and Foreign Homoeopathic doctors met the H.E. president of India Smt. Pratibha Patil and apprised her about Homoeopathy.
Paper presented in this congress has shown the encouraging results obtained by Dr.A.K.Gupta, MD(Hom.),Director AKGsOVIHAMS in the study of 31 patients conducted at Om Vidya Institue of Homoeopathy and Allied Medical Sciences. The study conducted over 5 yrs has shown good response in tackling the various symptoms of the disease MND also known as ALS ( Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) though no cure is being claimed. Patients of ALS/MND present with various symptoms as was revealed in the study that patients suffer from Problems in Speech, Swallowing, Breathing difficulty, Choking, Weakness of Muscles sply of the limbs, Fasiculations, Tendency to Fall, Paralysis and difficulty in holding the Neck. Though the disease does not affect the intellect and memory of the patient .Urine and stool also remains under control usually. Patients are forced to live a pathetic live without having any motor nerves control on the muscles and having no coordination .
According to the study Homoeopathy has helped 35-40% patients in arresting the fast progression of the further degeneration and has helped in improvement in the symptoms of Speech, Fasciculation, Tendency to Fall, Choking and Holding the Neck, Cough and salivation etc. which itself is a big achievement . as all the patients in the study were already taking the conventional treatment before starting homoeopathy and were finding fast progression in deterioration of the symptoms. A lot of research work is still needed to treat this devastating illness said Prof.Dr.A.K.Gupta. ,recipient of many awards and also a member of the Board of Homoeopathic System of Medicine , Govt. of Delhi. MND is more prevalent in men than women and usually affects people between 40-60 yrs old but in India it has been noted in younger age group even as early as 27-30 yrs also. MND/ ALS is usually diagnosed by ruling out other possible Neurological disease by use of EMGs,NCVs, MRIs and CT Scans etc. This is how it get diagnosed very late in our country as the all these investigations are expensive. The causes of MND are currently unknown. Only 5-10% case show some signs of heredity as observed in the study of Dr.Gupta. Despite having no cure Homoeopathy has provided relief to many patients in their persistent progressive suffering from this dreadful disease as Dr.Gupta has shown in the cases presented during the congress where the progression of the degeneration has been controlled, arrested and improved their quality of life with symptomatic relief also . The other few important papers and clinical studies were on the diseases like Asthma, Heart, HIV/AIDS , Cancer, Psoriasis, Tuberculosis, Epidermolysis Bullosa, Chikungunya, Dengue, Epilepsy, Meningitis, Vitiligo, Diabetes, , Chorea, Paralysis, Hypertension, Thyroid and Female & Children Diseases along with Life style disorders etc . many Foreigner doctors also presented their papers and clinical studies
