Mississippi lawmakers have been attempting to merge the Black schools since the beginning of the Ayers litigation in the 1970s. They have attempted to this on numerous occasions over the last 30 years; even in good economic times. This decision is more political than economc. The governor is just using the bad economy as a scapegoat to do what many conservatives have been wanting to do for years. But, I agree with the vid. The whole idea is insane.
The state of Mississippi has a least proposed to discontinue educational practices at MVSU for several years. It is my belief and solely an opinion that Haley Barber has finally found a justifiable reason to do so. Not only is this wrong, but completely unethical. Maybe he should take a pay cut along with many other overpaid politician who do nothing to help the social and economical condition of Mississippi.
This argument would be easier to agree with if it were presented in a more academic fashion. Spellcheck. People will take you more seriously if you present yourself in a more insightful, and educated manner. I am with you 100%, but do yourself, and everyone who agrees with you a favor and take some time to intellectually argue this very serious issue.
This merging of schools will save the state 35 MILLION dollars. Thats money back your wallet. Think about that. It's not just those HBCU schools. It's MSU and MUW as well. And MSU isn't predominately white. It's a melting pot here in Starkville. It's pretty much an equal diversity up here. You dont look like you know what the hell you are talking about in this video. Get some common sense. MSU isn't pitching a fit and neither should you. Get a life
I completely agree with you! I attend MSU and we are being merged with MUW, and you don't see us making a big deal about it. MSU and UM did get there funding cut, contrary to what people think.
MSU is going to be merged with MUW that are both mostly white. It isn't the only black colleges. Campuses won't be closed so it will be as if you have all 3 colleges still. This will help because of putting money back into what would go for the numerous administrators. MVSU, ASU, and JSU have the combined enrollment of MSU or UM. At least he didn't say close them and leave one or say these 3 will combine into the "white universities" which would lose all identity of historically black.
JSU, ASU, and MVSU gets about 75 million dollars from the state total. MSU, UM, and USM gets about 265 million from the state; you do the math. UM yearly budget is over a Billion dollars; JSU yearly budget is just over 100 million. Why not combined the Hines CC campus and save money; they are funded more than ASU and MVSU. Or cut some of the money given to UM, MSU, and USM. what type of response would the govenor get if he tried to merge UM and MSU; the govenor has unpure motives, dont be fooled
@jteasler MUW is 85% Women, soooo that really isn't a strong point.
