L.A.P.D vs S.L.A. Part 1

The Symbionese Liberation Army (S.L.A.) was an American self-styled militant group active between 1973 and 1975 that considered itself a revolutionary vanguard army. The group committed bank robberies, two murders and other acts of violence.

The S.L.A. became internationally notorious for kidnapping media heiress Patty Hearst, abducting the 19-year-old as she and her 26-year-old boyfriend, Steven Weed, sat relaxing in their Berkeley, California home. National interest grew into worldwide fascination when Hearst, in audiotaped messages delivered to (and broadcast by) regional news media, denounced her parents and announced she had joined the S.L.A. She was subsequently observed participating in their illegal activities. Hearst later alleged that she had been held in close confinement, and brainwashed.

On May 17,1974, Los Angeles police surrounded a house where most SLA members were holed up. A massive shootout ensued, and the building went up in flames -- shown live on television.

Very exciting! I was there the day of the shoot out in South Central LA. - First we were watching it on the news and my parents told me , “don’t you go over there.” But all I heard was, “…go over there."

Just like the Manson Family, most of the members of the Symbionese Liberation Army were white, upper middle class females from the suburbs of California. These chicks can go one of two ways in life: they can become God awful pop singers with absolutely zero talent and scandalous lifestyles, or they can become killers and terrorists. Either way, the American people have to suffer their existence!

@bearswilleatme That's Los Angeles for you. Nine thousand expended rounds, hundreds of eye-witnesses, five dead bodies... not to mention the LIVE BROADCAST of the event. But, it didn't happen. This is why I don't argue with 9/11 Truthers anymore. There is no point.

@bearswilleatme I'm no fan of the SLA's methods at all and felt they were unrealistic but you're right about this incident being used by the LA Gov't to promote SWAT. LA was a war zone prototype with its CCS police division as mentioned in the Glass House Tapes book. The SLA wasn't really that dangerous to the FBI who if they really tried hard could've found them sooner . The media hyped the SLA up & the LAPD wanted to make a point with this shootout to all other future "revolutionaries."
