what you said about david's condition being detected after 10 seconds of birth is wrong, because SCID isn't usually detected till 6 months of age, when recurrent infections are noticed
also… as a baby you retain some of you mother's antibodies for a short period of time and therefore have a "temporary" immune system, and the doctors have no way of telling.

You are correct that SCIDS isn't usually detected until as you said, around 6 months. The mother's antibodies also do provide a temporary immune system (although SCIDS is associated with a defection in a gland, not a disease). However, David's older brother had already died from SCIDS, and doctors told the parents that every child they had would have a 50% chance of being born with SCIDS. But you are right, his condition wasn't detected but rather predicted. Thanks though! :)
